This is a sketch I had on my computer for like 2 years, finally felt like painting it in photoshop.  Really wanted to make it feel like the atmospheric perspective you get with watercolor, but with some solidity in foreground elements using acrylic or gouache.  Except this is all in Photoshop.

I dunno I keep having all these story ideas lately about floating islands.  Probably subconscious Sonic the Hedgehog nostalgia from when I was a kid or something.

I read Calvin and Hobbes on an almost regular basis.  I saw this fan comic the other day about how Calvin grows up and moves on from Hobbes as the symbol of his imagination.  It makes me wonder how we all move on from our imaginations from childhood, or if we hold onto them. I know I always tried to.

So I had an interview with Black & Decker yesterday for a Graphic Design position (which I got offered the position today! Super excited!)
Haha, anyway, while interviewing them I asked about the different design departments they had there, and they told me about the team of Industrial Designers that actually designs all the power tools and stuff

And in my head I thought, “Oh man, I bet there’s a guy that just designs chainsaws for a living.  I bet he looks something like this.”

But knowing my luck he’s probably some short, scrawny guy like me; or some little dainty girl. Hahaha who knows.

So I went to this Bach concert at a church down in Baltimore with my girlfriend and one of her friends.  They’re both music majors and super into classical works, so they very much wanted to go to this.  And I have to say I enjoyed it as well. Very cool experience.  Also there was this happy old gentleman sitting in front of me.  He kept dozing off here and then, and then he’d wake up with this huge smile on his face. Hahah, I just had to draw him.

So I was commissioned by friends to design a T-shirt of one of my characters, and here’s what I came up with.  Showed them a few color variations and they wound up choosing the one below.  Pretty fun. YEAH BOY :D

Haha, my friend Betsy Bauer had some ridiculous photobooth photos of herself on facebook.  Those things are so ridiculous, they really produced great caricatured features, really great for inspiring different character designs.  I did this quick painting of her earlier today.  I may work on it more at some point if I feel like it, haha.  The right is the original sketch I drew in my sketchbook, and the left is what I did to it after I threw it into Photoshop.  I really recommend drawing like this sometime, it’s really fun! Haha!

Hot off the press!  Freshly printed business cards!

For my excellent pianist girlfriend :)
I should know, I designed them.
